Vince Mátyás to be MTI president
The Prime Minister proposed that Vincze Mátyás chief editor of HVG be
offered the position of president of Magyar Távirati Iroda Rt., Gál J. Zoltán
government spokesman announced. The presentation was sent during
the day to Mádl Ferenc – President of the Republic.
Vincze Mátyás on the news of the proposal told MTI : he hopes that the
President will appoint him soon. The MTI president to be said that unlike
Magyar Televízió, the news agency was not affected as much by the
media war, financing of it’s budget was not a problem. According to
Vince good work can be achieved under quiet conditions and by keeping
the institution out of political disputes. In his judgement MTI has to
remain the same balanced, honest, reputable and correct news agency
reinforced with modern technical background. The news agency under
market conditions has to strive for delivering to a wider customer base
extending it’s services to customers outside of the media such as the
spheres of economy, central and local government that can play a larger
role in the future. Vince, chief editor and founder of Heti Világgazdaság
currently chief editor of Business Hungary characterized news delivery’s
medium term reform as one that follows the changes of society’s
lifestyles. Newsmaking has to be raised to new hights not only in
technical terms but also as far as data, facts and speed is concerned.
It’s a serious professional challenge – as he puts it.
According to Hungarian law MTI Rt-s Proprietor’s Consulting Board
makes a proposal to the Prime Minister on the person to fulfill the
presidency. Than President of the Republic appoints him based on a
presentation made by the Prime Minister for 5 years. Currently MTI
President Dorogi Sándor’s mandate expires on November 30-th.
There were 13 applicants in the first round of the tender for the
presidency but only 6 of them were accepted for the second round.
MTI Rt-s Proprietor’s Consulting Board decide on October 3-rd that 2 of
the candidates Gazsó L. Ferenc and Vince Mátyás are to be submitted
to the prime minister. Medgyessy Péter on November 13-th held a
meeting with the largest customers of news delivery services and the
representatives of journalist organizations than he consulted with the 2
applicants submitted by PCB – MTI broadcasts.
Vince used to work for Magyar Hírlap which employed Gál J. Zoltán too
as deputy chief editor currently government spokesperson. (-the editor-)
